This is always one of our quick fire tournaments – not much room for error with two bowls each – the Competition was split into two sections and the draw was not entirely random – on this occasion we tried to ensure that any “less experienced / newish players” had a more experienced player as their partner. Of course, that’s not easy to do and we still ended up with some strong looking pairings – Isabel Macrae and Neil Craig / Anne Clarke and Leonard Moorhead, and Lee Wilson / Sandra Fullerton all looked strong. With a couple of late call offs, there was a bit of rearranging and suddenly Roddy McGeoch was paired with Rab Hutton. They looked strong favourites and so it proved as they won all their group games to book their place in the final. The other section was not quite as straightforward. Bizarrely it was another pair who had been put together at the last minute who triumphed, as Jimmy Gillie and Robert Moorehead progressed on shot difference. The final looked like it was going to be plain sailing for the McGeoch / Hutton pairing but some good bowls from Gillie and Moorehead kept them in it until the penultimate end when the loss of a three ended their hopes. In fairness to the winners, they had looked in control all day and it was a deserved victory for Rab and Roddy.
