Our first Club Competition of the 2024 season, the Two Bowl Triples, is just around the corner. Last season saw the Competition played in September with the trio of Connor Malcolm, Lee Wilson and Robert Moorhead looking like pre-competition favourites. Their first match, however, saw them lose out to Kenny White, Isabel Macrae and Rab Hutton by 5 shots to 4. Elsewhere, Dale Mclung, Leonard Moorhead and Valma Henderson looked in complete control in their first match against Alex Weir, Sandra Shackleton and Jeremy Bartlett – they took a 6-1 lead into the last end of their opener. Somehow Dale ended up in trouble, four shots down and would you believe it, Alex added another two for a maximum six on the last end to give the Weir triple a remarkable 7-6 win. With confidence high, Alex, Sandra and Jeremy then took on Isabel, Kenny and Rab – this was a tight match – 4-4 going down the last end but no heroics this time from Alex – a three for the Hutton rink gave them their second win of the day. After their disastrous start, the McClung triple then took on Jimmy Gillie, Alex Heatherbrill and Greig McDonell – this also proved to be a close match – a 5-4 lead to Dale going into the last end and no mistakes this time as a single on the last gave them a 6-4 win. The Hutton triple's march towards the trophy then came to a shuddering halt as the McDonell triple found some form with a resounding 9-3 victory but a win in their last match for Isabel, Kenny and Rab put them back in contention for the overall victory. Going into the last set of fixtures, only the McDonell triple had a chance of catching the leaders but their chance was lost as a result of a defeat to the Wilson triple. 3 wins and 1 defeat was good enough for Isabel, Kenny and Rab to pick up the trophy – well done to them.
